Legal Stuff OK, don’t be scared off. Legals are a necessary part of getting married, but they are easy. You can leave them to me. Here is what you will need. - At least one month’s notice. There's a forrm called the Notice of Intent to Marry which needs to be signed and with me, no less than 1 month prior to your big day ( but don't leave it that long!)
- An original birth certificate - if you were born in Australia.
- An original birth certificate OR a current foreign passport - if you were born overseas.
- If you don't have either of these - and its not possible to get one, tell me. We'll do a statutory declaration.
- Have you been married before? if you have, you will need to show me original divorce papers - from the court, or a death certificate if you are a widow or widower
-
- And then, we'll need to fill in a Notice of Intention To Marry - you can print this one out, and be super-organised, or we can take care of it, when we get together. http://www.ag.gov.au/www/agd/rwpattach.nsf/VAP/(CFD7369FCAE9B8F32F341DBE097801FF)~notice+of+intended+marriage+form.pdf/$file/notice+of+intended+marriage+form.pdf
- You will need to sign a declaration that states that as far as you know , there is nolegaal reason you can't get married
- AND if you want to change your name, after the wedding, or if for the rest of your life you may need to prove that you are legally married, you'll need an official certificate - which is different to the one I will give you on the big day. It comes from Births Deaths and marriages and costs from $46. I can lodge this for you, too, if you like - it's much easier!
